Starting my PHD

I am very excited to have recently started a researching a PHD with at the Open University in the department of Innovation and Design.

My area of research is in generative design - focusing on ‘shape grammar’, a method of applying rules to transform shapes, which lends itself to computational techniques.

I have been reading this book, and beginning to ponder how to apply these theories in my work and in combination with fabrication techniques…..

I am a jeweller and designer from Scotland but currently living in London recently graduated from the Royal College of Art and undertaking a PhD in the Design Group of the Open University.

My interest lies in the use of Generative/Parametric Design for objects and architecture, my current research is specifically concerned with the application of shape grammars.
